Icom IC-9700 All-Band DSTAR Transceiver with Touchscreen Display

Features That Define the IC-9700
    1. Direct-sampling SDR architecture – 14-bit ADC samples RF directly, eliminating image problems and delivering pristine signal purity across all three bands
    2. 144 / 430 / 1200 MHz all-mode coverage – SSB, CW, FM, AM, and D-Star on 2 m, 70 cm, and 23 cm in one radio
    3. Real-time spectrum scope + waterfall – full-bandwidth panadapter with adjustable span; spot signals before they call CQ
    4. Full-duplex cross-band operation – transmit on one band while receiving on another; essential for satellite work and repeater linking
    5. 100 W (144 MHz) / 75 W (430 MHz) / 10 W (1200 MHz) – robust power output for weak-signal DX and EME
    6. 4.3-inch colour touchscreen – intuitive tap-and-drag operation for frequency, filter, mode, and spectrum settings
    7. Dual D-Star vocoders – monitor two D-Star repeaters simultaneously, even listening to your own transmission via internet linking
    8. GPS + DR mode repeater search – enter coordinates or connect GPS; auto-scan nearest D-Star and analogue FM repeaters within 100 miles
    9. USB connectivity + remote operation – single-cable CAT control, audio interface, and firmware updates; operate via RS-BA1 software over LAN or internet
    10. 10 MHz external reference input – GPSDO-compatible for frequency stability within ±1 Hz on 23 cm; critical for EME and digital modes

    Function Introduction

    D-Star, Perfected

Icom's improved AMBE+2 implementation delivers FM-like D-Star audio quality—say goodbye to mechanical, choppy voice. Dual vocoders support simultaneous monitoring of D-Star signals in the 2-meter and 70-cm bands, and even monitoring its own transmissions via internet-connected repeaters. Integrated GPS DR mode automatically scans for nearby repeaters, making road trip operation easy and convenient.

    Comprehensive Spectrum Analyzer

A 4.3-inch touchscreen displays a real-time spectrum analyzer, adjustable from 5 kHz to 1 MHz, featuring a scrolling waterfall graph showing the frequency band activity history. You can identify meteor scattering signals, satellite downlink carriers, or find clear frequencies before transmission. Simply tap any signal to instantly jump to that frequency—no need to rotate the VFO in fast-paced competition.

    Direct-Sampling Clarity

Traditional VHF/UHF transceivers employ multi-stage conversion, introducing phase noise and spurious responses. The IC-9700's direct sampling architecture digitizes the RF signal immediately after bandpass filtering, maintaining signal purity across the 144 MHz, 430 MHz, and 1.2 GHz bands. The result is an extremely low noise floor, with MDS signals as low as -140 dBm clearly visible even on a spectrum analyzer—performance comparable to a dedicated spectrum analyzer.
